Lantern Lit Walk

February 14 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Join the Cazenovia Preservation Foundation (CPF) for a magical evening as we light up the night with a lantern-lit snowshoe hike on Saturday, February 14 at 5p.m., as part of Cazenovia’s Winter Fest Celebration! (Due to the weather forecast of sub-zero temperatures for Saturday, Feb. 7th we have RESCHEDULED this event to February 14th. )

We’ll hike approximately one mile on the Fairchild Hill Trail, depending on the group’s interest, and return to Meier’s Creek Brewing Company where participants can purchase hot cider or other refreshments to enjoy by the fire pits. After-party in the brewery, as well! $20 all-you-can-eat buffet; chili and hot cocoa for sale, crafts and prizes – partnered with CPF and Berkshire Hathaway.

In order to find parking, check in, and gear up, we recommend that you arrive by 4:30 p.m.

If you registered for the February 7th hike, please let us know if you still plan to attend on February 14th. We’re hoping you can still join us.

If you have NOT previously registered for the Lantern-Lit Hike but would like to attend the event on February 14th, please register online. All adults must fill out this form for themselves and their minor children, prior to participating in the event.

Important Info:

  • We’ll wear snowshoes, if conditions permit, otherwise, we’ll go for a winter hike. We encourage you to bring your own snowshoes, if you have them. A limited number of adult and kid-size snowshoes are available to borrow, courtesy of the Friends of Stony Pond (FROSTY). Please reserve your snowshoes, below.
  • If you previously reserved snowshoes for the February 7th event, you have first priority to use them for the February 14 hike. To hold your reservation, we just need to hear from you. Email admin@cazpreservation.org by February 7 to confirm your snowshoe reservation. If we do not hear back by that date, we will release the snowshoes so they can be made available to other participants.
  • If would like to borrow snowshoes, check our website on Monday, February 9th. We’ll post an update if we have snowshoes available that you can reserve. (UPDATE: At this time, all of our available snowshoes, courtesy of the Friends of Stony Pond, have been reserved for the Lantern-Lit Hike. Check back on Monday, Feb 9th for an update.)
  • If you were hoping on borrowing snowshoes, you still have a couple options:

1) Join us for a winter hike instead. Depending on snow conditions, snowshoes may not be necessary. If the trails have minimal snow or are well packed, you’re welcome to participate wearing snow boots. Please note that if snow is deep and you are breaking through the surface (“post-holing,” in trail lingo), it can be uncomfortable for you and damaging to trail conditions for other users.

2) Attend a Snowshoe Sunday. Snowshoe Sundays are held on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of January, February, and March, and we currently do have snowshoes available for those dates.

More info about this and other CPF Snowshoe events, including Snowshoeing FAQs, can be found on the CPF events page.

Lanterns:

While you’re not required to make or bring a lantern to join the hike, it’s definitely a fun way to enhance the experience.

  • Purchase a DIY Lantern Kit. Have some fun with arts and crafts—pick up a do-it-yourself lantern kit for just $10 (cash only, please) at Cazenovia Artisans, 39 Albany Street, Cazenovia. Each kit includes materials and instructions. Please note: The lanterns require some drying time, so be sure to make yours a few days before the hike.
  • Bring an outdoor lantern. Please note, for safety reasons, no glass or flames are allowed on the trails, so be sure your lantern is safe for outdoor use. Add a small bell or chime to your lantern for a festive touch!
